Description

A very special and choice perennial that we seldom take money for and usually only trade for something else good like a nice bottle of wine and then only to friends we know and trust.  That said, we've been known to bond over a bottle of good Zin.  Stout crinkled short rhizomes forming slow clumps and comparatively large startling white flowers in early spring emerging as floral fern-like croziers before being coddled by the narrow leaved pinnate foliage.  This is perhaps the penultimate popweed although we sadly seldom ever have seed set and to compare it with that nefarious and salacious shotweed cousin which is in the same genus and which plagues us all is as far removed as to think that you might show up here with a bottle of MD 20/20 and hope to go home with a rare Cardamine that was once a contender for the Far Reaches family crest - unthinkable!  Further yet similar elucidation can be gained from the Jan-Feb 2012 issue of Fine Gardening where we profile this Cardamine that is among the 1% of perennials.  Best in light shade or morning sun in decent moist soil.  These are divisions from this winter from our garden plants and will have little or no roots until later in spring and will be crinkly tuber-like rhizomes about the size of a finger joint.  They'll be fine - this is what they look like.
