Characteristics:

Primrose monkey flower is a small wildflower forming dense mats with all the leaves crowded at or near the ground. The stems are short, erect or ascending, and up to 5 cm long. The leaves are oblanceolate with 3 veins flaring from the base of the blade. The longest blades range from 0.7-4.5 cm long.

The flowers are yellow with maroon dots, somewhat two-lipped, and with notched, spreading petal tips. The corolla is 15-20 mm long and narrow, the throats only several mm wide. The throat is a deeper yellow and hairy. Plants to about 5-6 cm tall.


Habitat:

Primrose monkey flower is found in moist, wet meadows (especially in moss or grass) from moderate to high elevation in the mountains.


Range:

Primrose monkey flower is found from the east side of the Cascade Mts in Washington, south to California and eastward to central Idaho and Arizona.
