Diddl was born on August 24, 1990, Thomas Goletz drew the very first sketches of the Character.There was no name yet, and it was not a Jerboa (Springmaus) yet either. It was meant to be a Kangaroo with overalls. Kangaroos have such nice big feet. After the first few sketches Thomas found his Kangaroo too big. It had to be smaller, handier, and cuddlier. The Jerboa was born. It also had big feet and overalls. It was also much smaller and more suited to be applied to other products.

While Thomas was working on his sketches, the name "Diddl" came to mind all of a sudden. It seemed fitting for his character, and that is how Diddl got his name.
