Pleioblastus auricomus

A dwarf bamboo with  striking golden variegated foliage.

Introduced from Japan around 1870 and always highly valued as a foliage plant.

Commonly grows 2 to 3ft.(0.75m) but 4 to 6ft. is possible. Usually benefits from being pruned to ground level before spring in the same way as grasses as it tends to shed some of its foliage during winter. 

Has tolerated -22C. 

Slowly spreading but not invasive and can be readily controlled.

RHS. Award.

An outstanding foliage plant for the front of a border and an excellent colour contrast when grown with other types of bamboo or with shrubs & herbaceous.

Highly valued for its adaptable nature and unique foliage colour. Has a wide variety of uses, including containers.
