This 1974 BMW 2002tii is powered by a modified fuel-injected M10 inline-four that was rebuilt in the early 1990s and is mated to an E21-sourced five-speed transmission and a limited-slip differential. Finished in black over black and gray, the car also features fiberglass fender flares, 15″ Ronal wheels, 5-Series front disc brakes, Recaro front bucket seats, a Nardi steering wheel, and a retro-style stereo. This 2002tii was purchased by the current owner in 2021 and is now offered on dealer consignment in California with a BluntTech Industries bumper kit, service records, and a clean Montana title.

The color is said to have been changed from Chamonix White to black in 1993, at which point fiberglass fender flares were fitted. The selling dealer states that the car was refinished again by Bavarian Professionals of Berkeley, California, in 2006. Stone chips are noted in the finish, as is bubbling paint on the front fenders near the trim.

Silver 15×7.5″ mesh wheels wear locking Ronal center caps and are mounted with Continental tires. The suspension has been modified with Ground Control adjustable coilovers front and rear, and larger-than-stock disc brakes from a BMW 5-Series are installed up front.

The wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, and a combination gauge, while a clock is located to the right of the cluster, and auxiliary gauges are situated ahead of the shifter. The five-digit odometer shows 23k miles, approximately 200 of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The fuel-injected M10 inline-four was rebuilt by Engine Specialties of Oakland, California, in 1993 with work including boring and honing the cylinders, resurfacing the cylinder head, polishing the crankshaft, and installing Mahle pistons, reconditioned connecting rods, enlarged intake and exhaust ports, and a resurfaced flywheel. A receipt for the work is provided in the gallery, and the selling dealer states that the current displacement is unknown. The oil was most recently changed in 2021, and Stahl headers are fitted. A non-tii “snorkel” is visible in the radiator support panel.

Modified 1974 BMW 2002tii 5-Speed

The five-speed manual transmission was sourced from an E21 320i and was installed along with a shortened driveshaft and a limited-slip differential with a 3.91:1 final-drive ratio. Additional underside photos are provided in the gallery.
