Korean Cell Phone

When it comes to who reigns supreme in the US/Canada cell phone market, it usually comes down to either an Android or an iPhone. I’m not saying that one is better than the other here, what I am saying is that in South Korea there are so many other options besides these two. When I was taking the subway the other day I couldn’t help but notice a vast majority of the people were on their phones, either talking, texting, browsing the web or even watching DMB (mobile TV).

I ended up going with a Samsung Anycall flip phone with SK Telecom. I’ve heard that of the three major networks in South Korea (SK, KT, LG) that SK was the best bet. The phone doesn’t look all that fancy, heck it doesn’t even have a touch screen, which seems to be the new standard wherever you go. However this phone does have the DMB service and while I didn’t see a real use for it at first, it’s actually a really neat luxury to have. Here’s some pics:

The keychains attached to the phone make me feel too Asian but if you click on the picture with the keychains I explain its purpose. To wrap up this post, texting and typing on a phone in Korean had been weird at first but once you get the hang of it, it’s not so bad.

yeah the elaborate lighting sequences and the lady telling me the time is a little too much for me to handle at this moment =/

i had no idea it had sequences and a voice! i don’t like the tune my washing machine plays at the end of every cycle. it ends on a disturbingly somber note in minor.
