Blechnum Spicant often known as Hard Fern is a clump forming, evergreen, tufted fern which loves shaded locations. With feathery, sterile mid-green fronds. And almost erect, fertile fronds with linear pinnae create a fantastic rosette like shape.
The Blechnum Spicant is a firm favourite with many, providing all year colour and simple to plant, we recommend planting in flower beds or borders, underplanting of rose bushes or trees to create colour in a normally dull shaded location.
Blechnum Spicant care
The Blechnum Spicant thrives in full or partially shaded locations of the garden in moist, well drained soil. When planting this fern its common to use rotted leaf mould or a good quality compost to encourage the Blechnum to establish. An easy to grow garden plant which is generally disease and pest free and requires minimal pruning. Simply remove any damaged or dead fronds to encourage growth and continue looking good. A perfect colour all year round for a shaded spot in the garden.
