Ilex Aquifolium ‘Argentea Marginata’, commonly known as silver margined holly is a beautiful bushy, evergreen shrub or small tree with spiky edged glossy green leaves which are broadly margined with creamy yellow, often tinged pink when the plant is young. The foliage is the star of the show on this shrub, however the flowers are that extra something that makes this a plant a perfect garden plant. In the months of May and June the Ilex Aquifolium ‘Argentea Marginata’ blooms small white flowers, closely followed by bright red shiny berries.

A perfect hedging and screening plant which can be planted towards the edges of the garden to provide added security with the spiky foliage. Can be planted in a range of locations, almost anywhere in-fact, including a range of planting schemes and garden designs.

Ilex Aquifolium ‘Argentea Marginata’ care

The Ilex Aquifolium ‘Argentea Marginata’ thrives in sunny areas of the garden where the soil is moist, well draining. The Ilex will survive in partial shade although performs much better in full sunlight. If planting the Ilex as a specimen shrub we would advise not to prune unless you want to begin shaping it, if so, do this in spring by trimming the identified branches. Once pruning has finished mulch the base of the plant.
