Penstemon Apple Blossom commonly known as Beard Tongue is a pretty clump forming, semi-evergreen perennial which has narrow mid green leaves on almost upright stems. In July all the way through until October the Penstemon Apple Blossom plant will bloom clusters of small bell shaped, pink flowers with pure white throats creating a beautiful sight. Often planted in groups to shower an area with colour. Suited to many planting locations from flower beds and borders whilst also suiting many garden types such as cottage and informal gardens.
Penstemon Apple Blossom care
Plant the Penstemon Apple Blossom in a sunny, partially shaded area of the garden with moist, well drained soils where it will thrive. Generally disease free and requiring some pruning and some protection may be required in the winter months. Once flowered, remove the flowers to maintain the vigorous flowering in the following seasons, cutting the plant back to the base early spring to encourage a healthy, more bushy growth.
