Sambucus Nigra ‘Black Lace’ commonly known as Elder or Sambucus Eva is a beautiful, bushy, deciduous shrub with deeply dissected dark purple almost black foliage from spring to autumn. In the month of June the Sambucus Nigra ‘Black Lace’ will bloom stunning flat flower heads of tiny purple and pink blooms which sit above the dark foliage creating a lovely contrast with the colours. The flowers can be followed by black, glossy berries.
A good all round garden plant suiting flower beds and borders and many planting schemes and garden types. Can be grown in groups to create a dense bush/screen which can create privacy.
Sambucus Nigra ‘Black Lace’ care
The Sambucus Nigra ‘Black Lace’ thrives in a sunny, partially shaded area of the garden with moist, well drained soils where it will thrive. Can also be grown in chalky sites. To get the best from the foliage, full sun and warm areas of the garden are key. In early spring it is advised to cut back to ground level to encourage a bushy growth the following seasons, applying a generous amount of good quality mulch to the base of the plant.
