DescriptionSymphyotrichum turbinellum (Aster turbinellus) hybrid with Salvia guarantica Black ^ Blue - Flickr - peganum.jpg
Again the camera has not picked up the true colour of this Aster, which in life is a clear and delicate mauve. This hybrid, which came from Marchant's last summer, is a lovely airy plant 4-5ft tall with very fine foliage and dark stems, and avoids the rather scruffy foliage effect of the more obvious michaelmas daisies.
The climbing Dicentra (Dactylicapnos sandens) top right, like the one in the Pyracantha pictured elsewhere, has really taken off this year. Other plants in the picture are Hedychium coccinium and Datisca cannabina.
Nb. almost all the North American Asters, I understand, are now called Symphyotrichum
