Armour

(The Emil 1951 in the images is using Enhanced armour:)

vs 225mm AP
When on flat ground:

Upper plate 215mm
Lower plate 190mm
Turret face 225mm
Gun mount 230mm
Cupola 240mm

-Angling can get some bounces, but it exposes the weak side armour. This side armour is 35mm thick, so its overmatchable to all 106mm+ guns (such as the gun on the Turtle Mk.I).

vs 265mm APCR
Using -10 gun depression:
Upper plate 350mm

Turret 280-300mm

Gun mount 230mm

Cupola 250mm

VS tier 7:
-The Emil 1951 has no frontal weakpoint against guns with less than 185mm of penetration. It has enough armour on its whole front to be very aggressive in tier 7 battles.

-Even higher penetration tier 7 tanks will only be able to penetrate this tank’s lower plate, as the upper plate is fairly strong against tier 7 enemies, and the turret is completely invulnerable.

VS tier 8:
-Heavy tanks on flat ground will be able to penetrate the hull, and most heavy tanks will be able to penetrate the turret. Exceptions are: HT that fire APCR as standard ammo instead of AP, and HT with less than 225mm penetration.
These tanks will find it harder to penetrate the turret on flat ground.

-All medium tanks (not including Centurions and TVP), are unable to penetrate the turret without using premium ammo. The upper plate will also appear red to most tanks with under 210mm of penetration.

-When using gun depression, the only tanks that can penetrate the turret face will be high penetration heavies like the Löwe or T34. Every other medium and heavy tank has no chance to penetrate the turret face, though tanks with over 235mm penetration may be able to penetrate the gun mount.

VS tier 9:
-In tier 9 battles the Emil 1951 has no hull armour at all, and when on flat ground it won’t have any turret armour either.
-When using gun depression, enemies will still need to use premium ammo to penetrate the face of the tank, and most enemies in tier 9 will have high enough premium penetration to go through.

Gun

Emil 1951 mounts a 105mm autoloader

-Alpha damage is 310 on AP, 260 on APCR, and 400 on HE
-It has a 3s intra-clip reload, and a 20.9s clip, reload giving it 2078 DPM
-The gun has 3 shells, so in 6s it can deal a 930 damage burst.
-Penetration is 230mm on AP, 270mm on APCR, and 53mm on HE
–Estimated aim time is 4.0/4.3s
–Base aim time is 2.5s, but it can get down to 1.99s.
-Dispersion is 0.337/0.303
Gun handling is 0.18/0.18/0.16, or 0.16/0.16/0.14 with Vertical Stabilizer.
-Gun depression is -10 degrees

Overall this is quite a good gun. Its DPM is decent, especially for an autoloader, it has very good penetration, decent dispersion, and very good gun handling. The only aspect that is quite average is the aim time, which isn’t very impressive.
The gun depression is actually better than it seems, as the Emil 1951 is smaller than most medium tanks and even some light tanks, and its gun is mounted quite low in the turret, so its effective gun depression is quite high.

Mobility

-Top speed is 40km/h, reverse speed is -20km/h
-Traverse speed is with 39.5 deg/s on hard terrain, and 36.5 deg/s on medium terrain
-In game acceleration rate is shown as 15.6hp/t, it has a strong 410hp engine for its 26 ton weight.
-Actual acceleration rate is 13 hp/t on hard terrain, and 12 hp/t on medium terrain.
Terrain resistances are good for a heavy, with 1.2/1.3/2

Overall the mobility of the Emil 1951 is amongst the best in tier 8 heavy tanks. It has amazing top speeds, very good traverse speed, great acceleration, and decent terrain resistances (so it hardly loses speed when going off-road).
Overall it feels very nimble and agile for a heavy tank, and this amplifies its heavium playstyle.

Be aware that the Emil 1951 only weighs 26.33 tons, so even some light tanks weigh more than it.

Equipment, provisions, & consumables

Emil 1951 has no special provisions/consumables.

Improved Ventilation:
Both improved ventilation and calibrated shells work well on this tank.
(Note that the “Combat Power I” equipment choice on autoloaders is less about what’s lacking on the tank’s stats, its more about what you as a player prefer. Neither calibrated shells nor improved ventilation is actually needed on the Emil 1951, the tank is good enough that it works without needing either of them.)

-Ventilation improves everything crew related, aim time, reload time, accuracy, view range, traverse speed, and terrain resistances. Use this if you feel that the gun needs some improving, or you just want to utilize the amazing view range the tank has.

-Calibrated shells improves the penetration on AP from 230mm to 241mm, APCR from 270mm to 284mm, HE from 43mm to 58mm. Use this if you just want to have some pretty insane penetration to counter enemy tanks (or counter the need to aim).

Use the one that suits your playstyle more, there is no wrong choice on this tank.

Coated Optics:
All heavy tanks should use coated optics and not a camo net. Though on the Emil 1951 its especially important, as its already very good base view range is amplified by both improved ventilation and coated optics.
Using both vents and optics, the Emil 1951 has 288.2m view range, which is as good as many light and medium tanks, and best among heavy tanks (except the Chieftain).

When pushing forward to the frontline or capping a base, the Emil 1951 will often be able to spot enemies before any other tank due to its great view range.

Enhanced armour:

Having better armour is completely necessary on this tank. Emil 1951 is not a brawling heavy and is not meant to take hits, so it won’t benefit from having higher HP. Its better to play the tank as though every hit will kill you, since you just don’t want to be taking damage when playing this tank.

Emi 1951 is a hulldown heavy with a big emphasis on having a strong turret,  and using enhanced armour makes the tank much stronger when in those hulldown and gun depression positions.
Enhanced armour adds basically 10mm armour to the front of the turret, making it much stronger against higher penetration tanks, but also helping it bounce more on the hull and turret when on flat ground.

If you aren’t taking full advantage of that turret armour, then what’s the point of playing an Emil? So use enhanced armour.

Vertical Stabilizer:
As the Emil 1951 has already decent accuracy, refined gun is not needed on the tank. Its also not a sniper, and is rarely sitting still during battle, so it often doesn’t have time to fully aim in.

With such a playstyle, the Emil 1951 benefits much more from the vertical stabilizer, which increases the tank’s accuracy when it doesn’t have time to fully aim in, and when its constantly moving about in battle.

The Emil 1951 gains additional benefit from vertical stabilizer as its an autoloader, so it often has to fire off multiple shells very quickly. Vertical reduces the after-shot-bloom, making the tank more accurate while its unloading its magazine.

Gameplay advice

The Emil 1951 is a heavium tank. It can play both the frontline or the support role, thanks to its great mobility and its great turret armour. Its also easily able to flank around enemies or go to the medium side of the map and coordinate a push.

Due to its armour performing so differently against the tanks of different tiers, the Emil 1951 has to play slightly differently, depending on what level of penetration its faced against.

Playing against tier 7  enemies:
Emil 1951 can be played very aggressively when its top tier against tier 7 enemies. Very few tanks can even penetrate the lower plate, and on a ridgeline the tank will be invincible.

You do have to be aware not to be too over-confident in the tank when top tier. It is extremely strong, but tier 7 tanks still have much higher DPM, and your tank has weak side armour. As long as you control the situation, you’re doing fine, but as soon as multiple enemies rush you, or catch you while reloading, there isn’t much that you can do.

Playing against tier 8 enemies:
When facing tier 8 enemies the tank can still bounce shots, but you should try to avoid getting shot when not using gun depression. The armour will work against some enemies, but not all, so just don’t take the risk.

Due to the 20s reload, try to always have at least one ally to cover you while you reload, since that’s when your tank is most vulnerable, and enemies are most likely to rush you.

Playing against tier 9 enemies:
Faced against tier 9 enemies, you can’t play as much of a frontline position, and have to play more cautiously. On flat ground, your tank won’t have any armour at all, and even when using gun depression, many enemies will be able to use premium ammo against your turret armour.

Your gameplay should revolve around using the gun and mobility, along with the hulldown capabilities of the tank. Try to flank around enemies if possible, as mobility and an autoloader is an advantage you have over most other tanks in your tier and even in tier 9.

Overall just play this like a heavium, put a higher emphasis on using your gun and mobility, and of course turret armour where possible, but try to avoid getting shot on the hull or on flat ground.
Forget what you know about Emil 1 or Kranvagn, as the Emil 1951’s gameplay isn’t similar to either of those. Its a lot more mobile and a lot less armoured, so play it according to this.

Overall

Overall the Emil 1951 is a great heavium tank. Its combination of having great mobility and speed, an autoloader, high penetration, and a strong turret when using gun depression, just makes the Emil 1951 one of the strongest tanks in tier 8.
Its very versatile and it can fulfil multiple roles in battle, and even works well when bottom tier. Just be aware of its weaknesses, which are its fairly long aim time and its weak hull armour against tier 8-9 tanks.

Is it worth getting?

The Emil 1951 is 100% worth having, especially if you like autoloaders or heaviums. Its one of the strongest tanks in tier 8 due to its great versatility and its autoloader gun, and it performs very well in battle.

Note that due to its lack of armour, its mediocre aim time, and the fact its an autoloader, the Emil 1951 won’t be the easiest tank for newer/less experienced players to get the hang of. This tank is very good as is, but its strengths in stats are amplified by skillful gameplay.

The Emil 1951 is worth 11,500 gold. Its an amazing tank, and what it offers is quite unique in tier 8 and in the game in general. There are very few other heaviums which are autoloaders and have strong turret armour, with a high level of mobility.
