Tell Me More...
Spellbinding and rare - Dictamnus albus Albiflorus is a genus of just one species, found growing wild in woodlands, grassland, and rocky regions of China and Europe. Large, tough, glossy leaves are citrus-scented when crushed or brushed against. Hardy Dictamnus albus Albiflorus, known as Dittany, has a strong and bushy upright growth habit, reaching up to 1m tall and 50cm wide. Spires of crisp white lily-like flowers with striking bright-green stamens bloom plentifully in May and June. The sturdy stems make excellent unusual cut flowers. Star-shaped seedpods are left behind after the flowers have faded adding further interest in the border. Plant in full sun or part shade in fertile, well-drained soil. A light, volatile gas is said to be emitted from this plant which burns briefly when lit, giving Dictamnus albus Albiflorus its other names – Gas Plant, or Burning Bush.
