  • Broadleaf evergreen shrub, upright, variegated, slow growing, may reach 5 ft by 4 ft (1.5 × 1.5 m); reportedly fewer thorns than other cultivars.  Leaves narrow, 4-5 cm long and 1-2 cm wide, gray to dark green with cream splotches and margins.
  • Sun to part shade, prefers fertile, moist, well drained, acid soil, but tolerates higher pH soils.
  • Hardy to USDA Zone 6
  • Kembu:  "sword dance" in Japanese.
