Adam Rubin of ESPN NY reported that Frank Viola was released from New York Presbyterian Hospital on Tuesday, six days after undergoing open-heart surgery.
Viola, 53, had a heart issue detected during his spring-training physical with the Mets. The Cy Young Award winner was supposed to be the Triple-A Las Vegas pitching coach for the 2014 season.
According to GM Sandy Alderson recently, Viola still hoped to serve in that role later this season, although doctors first would need to sign off.
