Pink-Flowered Perennials III

Lavatera oblia ‘Eyecatcher’ (syn. Lavatera thuringiaca ‘Eye Catcher’) – This sub-shrub is often sold as a perennial and features single lilac-pink blooms (with a reddish-purple eye and veining) from June to October. It has greyish-green maple-like foliage and is drought tolerant once established. Prune late winter to early spring. Grows 4-6′ high by 3-4′ wide. Zone 6.

Oenothera speciosa ‘Siskiyou’ (syn. Oenothera  berlandieri ‘Siskiyou Pink’ ) – A Mexican Evening Primrose with daytime blooms of a clear light pink (about 1.5″ wide) with slightly darker veining and a pale yellow eye. It flowers from May to July with a sporadic re-bloom through to autumn. Prefers full sun with well drained soil. Grows 10-12″ high by 12-18″ wide. Zone 5.

Phygelius x rectus ‘Trewidden Pink’ – This RHS Award of Garden Merit winning Cape Fuchsia is a virtual hummingbird magnet. It features tall spires of dusky pink tubular flowers with a brilliant red rim and contrasting pale yellow throat from June to October. It is a semi-evergreen perennial that prefers sun. Deadhead to promote more flowers. Grows 36″ high and wide. Zone 7.

Persicaria bistorta ‘Superba’ (formerly Polygonum) – This Fleece Flower is a semi-evergreen perennial and another RHS Award of Garden Merit winner. It bears spikes of soft pink bottlebrush blooms on tall stalks from June to August. This cottage garden favourite is a good cut flower and prefers part to full sun with even soil moisture. Grows 24-30″ high by 24-28″ wide. Zone 3.

Veronica ‘Atomic Pink’ – A Dutch introduction with thick lavender-pink flower spikes from early to late summer that attract both hummingbirds and butterflies. These are nicely contrasted by disease resistant bright green foliage. It prefers part to full sun and needs good soil drainage to overwinter well in coastal BC. Grows 16-24″ high by 12-18″ wide. Zone 4.

  1. Hi there! I just wanted to ask if you ever have any problems with hackers?
    My last blog (wordpress) was hacked and I ended up losing several weeks of
    hard work due to no data backup. Do you have any methods to protect against hackers?

    • I have never had any hacking problems with WordPress – so at least for me they seem to be doing a good job of keeping hackers out. Personally, I just keep the anti-virus software up to date on my own computer. Cheers. Mike
