Phlox paniculata ‘Purple Kiss’ – One of the Top Shelf varieties, this compact Garden Phlox features fragrant blooms of a rich purple with contrasting white eyes. A great choice for containers due to its diminutive size and also a great cut flower for the vase. Blooms from late June through to September. Attracts butterflies. Grows 15″ high by 12-14″ wide. Hardy to zone 4.

Phlox paniculata ‘Orange Perfection’ – The name says it all for this floriferous large-flowered cultivar with brilliant salmon-orange blooms with contrasting magenta-pink eyes. The flowers are sweetly fragrant and even tall enough to attract the occasional hummingbird. Keep well watered in the summer heat to prevent powdery mildew. Grows 3′ tall by 18-24″ wide. Hardy to zone 3.

Phlox subulata ‘McDaniel’s Cushion’ – A low-growing Moss Phlox that makes a great addition to the edges of retaining walls or rock gardens. ‘McDaniel’s Cushion’ bears bright rose-pink blooms (April to June) that often smother the green needle-like foliage below. It is an RHS Award of Garden Merit winner and extremely cold hardy. Grows 4-6″ high by 12-15″ wide. Hardy to zone 2.

Phlox paniculata ‘Norah Leigh’ (syn. ‘Nora Leigh’) – A tall Garden Phlox grown as much for its beautiful variegated foliage (green with heavy cream margins) as it is for the fragrant flowers. ‘Norah Leigh’ produces lovely white flowers with prominent pink eyes that carry a spicy sweet fragrance. A good choice for the back of the border. Grows 3′ high by 18-24″ wide. Hardy to zone 4.

Phlox paniculata ‘Cecil Hanbury’ – An old variety (Symons-Jeune 1947) of Garden Phlox with bold flower clusters of a rich salmon-pink that will bloom from July to August when deadheaded. It makes a gorgeous cut flower and combines well with Miscanthus ‘Morning Light’. Prefers a part to full sun exposure. Grows 3-4′ high by 24″ wide. Hardy to zone 4.
