"someone said that the world's a stage", 2002 acrylic and thread on canvas, 200 x 320 cm Michael Raedecker The Approach is pleased to announce the third solo exhibition in the gallery of new paintings by Michael Raedecker. Expanding on his technique of blending embroidery and paint Raedecker depicts new forms of landscape and interiors. The muted palette of wooded and snow capped landscapes is replaced with a tropical desert island scene, whilst interiors focus in on still lives and portraiture. Combining narrative elements with abstract detail Raedecker makes sewn fabric function in as many diverse ways as painted surfaces. Winner of the prestigious John Moores painting prize (1999) and Turner Prize nominee in 2000, this September Raedecker has a major solo exhibition at Centro Nazionale per le Arti Contemporanee Rome, which will be touring to the Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Basel. Michael Raedecker will also feature alongside John Currin and Laura Owens in the September edition of Parkett. A new catalogue of Michael Raedecker's work is being published by the Centro Nazionale per le Arti Contemporanee and the Museum für Gegenwartskunst and will be available at The Approach from September.
