Week 4: Glitch Art A E S T H E T I C

If you’ve used a computer in your life it’s extremely likely you have experienced a glitch from the classic window ‘drag’ effect to having the screen flash random colours – but would you ever consider this an aesthetic? Many people do and it’s referred to as ‘glitch art’.

With the rise of digital media, media is now more accessible than ever before and a somewhat adverse effect of that is now media is being manipulated and iterated uncontrollably. A specific example of this is the previously mentioned ‘glitch art’ which is the artistic venture which involves the manipulation of our regular forms of media to and mixing it with computer malfunctions to create a whole new aesthetic.

With my newfound knowledge of this aesthetic, I used photomosh to glitch some movie screencaps into GIFs which I then edited to make this 👇 (which would not have been possible pre digital media).

  1. This is a definitely a sound approach. It is easy to consume and covers the basics. I notice you have quoted a couple of sources. It would really help you define what you mean by glitch aesthetic if you directly quoted some sources, preferably an authority on the subject if one exist. Found it enjoyable! Keep up with the good work!
