From Backyard Gardener:  Lindera obtusiloba • (Japanese Spicebush) • Lindera is cultivated for its attractive, aromatic foliage, star-shaped, mid-April flowers and showy red to black fruit. Growth habit is rounded with upright branches. Bright green leaves are obovate to 5 inches long, turning yellow in the fall.
