Vice President of Learning & Impact

Jonathan Goldberg (he/him) is the Vice President of Learning & Impact at the Surdna Foundation. He was appointed to his current role in January 2023.  

Jonathan leads the Foundation’s learning and impact agenda, connecting its grantmaking strategies and operational practices to shared outcomes and lessons for the Foundation, its grantees, and other external partners. Jonathan also oversees grantmaking operations, including grants management and information systems. A member of the program leadership team, he also works with other senior leaders to advise the president on Foundation policies and practices.

Jonathan joined Surdna in 1997, first serving as Grants Manager and then as Director of Learning & Grant Operations before being appointed Vice President of Learning & Impact in 2023. Previously, he worked for 12 years as a Program Officer in the Music Department at the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA). In that capacity, Jonathan conducted grant reviews of arts organizations throughout New York State, as well as producing concert tours from Albany to Buffalo. He also did program work in the areas of individual artists and film and electronic media. Toward the end of his tenure at NYSCA, Jonathan led the agency’s grants management and computer department.   

Jonathan holds a bachelor’s in music from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and a master’s in arts administration from New York University.
