Description
Berberis thunbergii is a shrub from Japan. It has numerous varieties, including Atropurpurea Nana with purple-brown leaves.
Atropurpurea Nana reaches a maximum of 0.6 m in height and 1 m in width, and its habit is flat-spherical. It is characterized by small, but decorative, purple-brown leaves that turn scarlet. It blooms at the turn of May and June with inconspicuous, yellow flowers that stay on the bush until mid-August. It is not a demanding plant. It prefers sunny positions where the color of its leaves is more intense than in the shade. It grows even on poor, sandy and poor substrates . It is especially willingly used to create low hedges. Looks good in rock gardens. It can be successfully grown in a pot.
