Guy Rombouts occupies the Art Now space in S.M.A.K. with his total installation of the wondrous word “oei”.

Rombouts feels it is impossible to communicate directly in our language. According to him, certain emotions cannot be expressed in words. That’s why he has been looking for systems in which form and meaning coincide to the optimum extent.

In 1976 Guy Rombouts spent a week filling a notebook with the word ‘oei’ (oops). The word weaves its way through the book like one long stream of consciousness, adopting various guises, to form a primal litany in which mistakes are sung over and over again in all their impossibility.
