Despite the weekend’s severe winter weather, Maryland went ahead with its scheduled weekend of official visits for recruits. And it paid off.
The Terps secured the commitments of Florida defensive backs Elijah and Elisha Daniels on Saturday afternoon, the twin brothers announced on Twitter.
Both are three-star recruits from Cardinal Gibbons High School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Elijah Daniels is ranked as the No. 62 safety nationally in the 247sports.com composite rankings and the No. 126 prospect in the state of Florida. Elisha Daniels is the No. 121 cornerback nationally and the No. 186 prospect in Florida.
The commitments are a boost to a Maryland secondary that is losing three starters from last year’s squad and lost three commitments in the defensive backfield in December.
The pledges also continue coach DJ Durkin and the staff’s inroads in Florida recruiting. Elijah and Elisha Daniels are the third and fourth commitments from the Sunshine State this week after three-star running back LaDerrien Wilson committed Wednesday and three-star defensive lineman Aaron Thompson announced his decision Thursday.
Maryland’s Class of 2016 is currently ranked No. 47 nationally, according to 247sports.com, and No. 10 in the Big Ten Conference.
