Anyone else building or rideing a Python Recumbent Lowracer

Postby Recycler » Sun Sep 20, 2015 5:31 pm

I have been building mine on off for about 8 months now.
My first few attempts were unrideable, but now I think my latest will work.
I will try it out when it stops raining. Photos soon. Bob

Here it is, 20" wheels. Front wheel drive. 3 speed hub,
Coaster brake. Centre pivot steering, Low to the ground.
Rain stoped still trying to ride it.
So this must be the only one around? Bob :)

Yeah pythons aren't a well known concept in aus.
One of the funny issues with building your own center steer bike is that if you haven't learned how to ride one, you might have trouble actually knowing if its rideable or not.

What have you changed since the first attempt - pivot angle ?

You are right, it may be unrideable but I have had a good time building and trying to ride the dam thing.
I have changed the pivot angle a few degrees. I had a 26" rear wheel. Moved the seat forward to be over the pivot point.
Changed sprocket from 18 to 24. Raised and lengthened the pedal boom.
I will try again at the netball courts after the school holidays. :)

Python has been on my list for years but I always seem to end up building bikes and trikes for others.

My understanding is that the learning curve is up there with riding a unicycle.

If it is a big problem then perhaps build a trike rear end as some have done and start to get acquainted that way.

I will be following your experiences with interest.
Darn! I think you have maybe got me going again. Wonder what useful bits I have in the shed?

John.

Hi, last 2 months have been spent making a Python lowracer. Almost 10 years ago I planned to make one, and now it is finished. The closer I stuck to jürgens plan the better it goes. After about 10 hours of daily practice it is possible to ride for about 10 minutes without a stop. That is what I have been looking forward to, the learning like a kid again.

Good to hear of your success.

Be great to see some pictures of your build.

I have still not built one but at my age its probably too late to start now.
The trike version would be OK though I guess.

Greetings from the Arizona desert. I've been working on a python trainer for several years (not continuously) before spending the time, money, an effort to build a nice one. Mine is unusual in that it's made of wood. I'll post pics if anyone is interested as soon as I figure out how.

Hi, I'm building a 26" python, & I'm in Ontario, Canada(from Perth) & it's -10°C right now & snowy roads makes it impossible to ride right now. I'd like to build one like yours-can you post bike dimensions & your inseam leg length? Thanks!
