After working with producer Bill Hamel on the single “I Like It Loud” in late 2012, Carmen Electra has returned with a new dance cut, “Around The World,” that the model/actress hopes will spark a prolonged musical run in the EDM world after originally being discovered as a singer in the early 90’s.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been involved with music a little bit while working on films and other projects,” the 42-year-old tells Billboard. “Every time I get a chance to be involved with music, it makes me feel more complete. It inspires me in so many ways, and I miss it so much while I’m away from it.”
Electra, who was first unearthed as a musical talent by Prince, says that she was nervous to return to the studio, but that the beat to “I Like It Loud” “automatically made me want to dance” and rekindled her passion for recording. Following the “I Like It Loud” release, Electra performed in Dubai, Germany, Canada and other countries, and says, “This has been really exciting and I’m learning so much.”

She also tells Billboard that she’s hoping to become a professional DJ, after playing one in the upcoming film Chocolate City. “I was fascinated with scratching, especially with the girls who could do it,” she says. “I’ve been hanging out with one of my best friends who’s married to [Beastie Boys turntablist] Mix Master Mike, and I really want to go backwards and learn how to scratch and know how to do that.”
Coming up for Electra: a music video for “Around The World” and more live dates, as well as balancing more film commitments. “I’m staying really busy,” she says, “but everything I’m doing is fun.”
