French title
Chassis n° 2275141

• Extensive history file
• Excellent preparation for historic rallies
• Ideal for top events

Considered to be BMW’s first ‘M’ version, the 3.0 CSL was a lightweight version of the 3.0 CS coupé, weighting 200kg less, presented at the Geneva Motor Show in 1971. Developed by the new competition department, BMW Motorsport, run by the former racing driver Jochen Neerpasch, it set its sights on the European touring car championship. The BMW 3.0 CSL was thus a production car developed for racing.
Jean-Claude Basso bought this car at the end of the 1970s and stored it in his workshop.
In 2006, BMW France entered it in the Le Mans Classic to commemorate the entry of BMW’s first official Art Car in the 1975 Le Mans 24 Hours; painted by Alexander Calder, it was commissioned by our much-loved auctioneer and talented racing driver, Hervé Poulain who obtains permission from the Calder family. The car was completely recommissioned by BMW France at the time and painted, just as in 1975. It was driven at the event by Basso, his son Ronald and Poulain. It naturally created quite a buzz and appeared in many articles in the press. After restoring its white paintwork and BMW Motorsport livery, Basso then entered the car in the ASAVE Championship, where it racked up some 20 victories and several podiums. From 2011–2021, it competed in the Tour Auto, always finishing in the top 10 and coming third in 2021. It is an extremely quick car, which we had the chance to drive on track at Montlhéry. Its HTP is valid until 2029, and the car will come with additional wheels and spare parts. This is a rare opportunity to acquire such a well-known car, which is ready to win!
