ABOUT: About Me

Education

I completed my doctorate in clinical and forensic psychology at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology in Los Angeles. I earned a B.A. in psychology from Antioch University Los Angeles.  Prior to this I received a journalism degree with a major in English in Canada.

Clinical Training

I have extensive experience with teens and adults of all ages from diverse populations including LGBTQ. I completed my pre and post-doctoral training treating individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. These included depression, anxiety, trauma and grief, bipolar disorders and schizophrenia. My training hours included working in detox, residential, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient settings.

My training in EFT is ongoing and includes intensive experiential workshops that specialize in treating specific disorders such as social anxiety, trauma, and self-esteem.

Area of Expertise

In addition to treating mood, anxiety, and substance use disorders, I have considerable experience working with trauma, grief and loss. I have specific expertise in treating clients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorders. I have worked with LGBTQ clients, and others struggling with adjustments relating to various stages of life. I am sensitive to racial and cultural factors in therapy. I am particularly suited for those in the entertainment field, due to
my own background.

Life Experience

Psychology is my second career. I enjoyed a very successful lengthy career in the field of broadcast news.  As a television and radio news anchor and reporter, I was exposed to people from all walks of life, from dozens of cultures. It was my curiosity to understand the subjective experience of others that led me to become a psychologist. I welcome clients in all related fields of news, sports, and entertainment.
Finally, I am the mother of a teenager and a former step-mother, having navigated an amicable and collaborative divorce after 16 years of marriage. These experiences continue to  inform my work in countless ways that I am grateful for.
