Steampunk

Steampunk enjoys a special status within the Black scene. Although it feels neither visually nor in terms of content "Gothic", it descends from the Gothics via several corners. It is the Black Romantics with a penchant for the Victorian Age who provided a template. Some of them lost themselves in Jules Verne's stories, dreaming of a future where people wore the elegant fashions of the 1850s but used steam-powered machines to control themselves and the craziest machines.

So the typical steampunk is neither a music lover nor a sadness-lover in the first place, but a passionate tinkerer and tinkerer who builds mechanical arms, crazy weapon dummies or flying backpacks in hours of painstaking work. Steampunk can be seen at major festivals of the black scene, at the Victorian Picnic in Leipzig and at "black" parties. Actually, however, a separate steampunk scene has formed in the meantime, which organises events and in which the relationship to the black scene no longer plays a role.

Typical clothing

Basically, steampunk dresses in the style of the Victorian era. Wide flowing dresses for the woman and practical cloth trousers, suit and waistcoat for the man. Above this, however, the creativity of the steampunk is evident in the form of his self-made arm prostheses, leg splints, weapon holsters and breastplates, which also partly hint at the steampunk's fictitious choice of profession. Thus there are air pirates, pilots and engineers who are outwardly similar in their choice of basic clothing.

Typical makeup

The steampunk wears no makeup worth mentioning. While the man has to manage without any at all, the woman's face features rather subtle and very restrained colours. Much more important are the headpieces. Bionic eyes, masks, top hats or helmets continue the style of clothing and are meant to enhance the senses in the" fictional future of the past".

Since the man often wears headpieces, the hairstyle needs no mention. The steampunk ladies wear updos or pompous hairpieces and hats.

Typical music

Typical steampunk music does not exist, only some bands live the steampunk style even on stage and thus push themselves to be considered a steampunk band. Apart from Abney Park and Coppelius, however, there are no scene-wide known bands of this genre. Steampunk takes musically what belongs to the contents of its fantasy world.
