Today I compared Canon PowerShot A40 2 MP Digital Camera with my K750i. Here are the results. This Canon camera belongs to my friend, it was bought four years ago in 2002 when it was released. It was very expensive back then. We bought it four our youth newspapers we had in 2002-2003. And when the newspapers team break up, my friend got the camera
because he was the main editor of our newspapers. So we havely used it for the past four years. Now when i have K750i I decided to compared it with this cam because both cams are 2 MP. I just don't know why didn't I remember to do this before. I didn't have so much time so i shoot everything on my way to work .

This is the camera I'm talking about.

In didn't compared night shots, because my MXE-60 hasn't arrived yet. I'll do it when I get it, aldough indoor night shoots can be compared, if you turn the leds and night mode on, but outdoor night shots can't be compared, I mean it wouldn't be fair because Canon PowerShot A40 has real Xenon flash.

Great review, but its old news.. Maybe if you compared a K800i to a 3.2MP cam, if you you'll find many threads on K750i Cam comparisons

Posted by SaLiH
@dgilmartin - I know but I did it for some members who want to buy K750i now, and believe me there are many of them, you would be suprised. There are always new threads here with same questions about K750i, should I buy it, is k750i a good phone, what's the camera like...and so on. Thanks for your compliment ''Great review''

@salih: thanx for this comparison. i only found comparations btween mobiles. i have to say that im staying stucked to my k750 till i decide wich one am gonna buy.

Posted by SaLiH
@tranced - You're welcome
Me too, at least until they release 5 MP phone, with real Xenon flash, dvd video quality recording, A2D...all in K750i sized phone. I mean I was really happy when I first saw that SE is going to release 2MP phone because as I said I was using this Canon 2MP Dig.Cam. for the past 4 years. But I was still a little bit sceptical, if I would be able to use it as a real dig. cam. But when I finally got it I couldn't believe my own eyes, especially because before I had K700i. K750i is simply the best 2 MP phone camera in the world, we all konow it was awarded by TIPA for best imaging mobile device 2005.

I would have been rather shocked if the SE had come out on top! Having said that - the SE's lens is tiny & the phone is also tiny but the pictures it takes are almost unbelieveable for a phone!
I have taken some stonking pictures with my K750i. OK, it doesn't really compare to my Olympus C-4040z but I don't carry the Olympus everywhere & it doesn't fit into jean pockets.
I got my girlfriend a W810i & its screen is much better, though I haven't compared its camera but presume it's no worse. The W810i's music s/w is far better than the K750 - especially when trying to navigate through 3GBs of mp3s.

@busb - I was suprised by that too, K750i lens is so small comparing to Canon's, and still it takes excellent photos. Yes W810i, has the same camera as K750i (W800i,W810i,D750i,W900i,P990i and ofcourse K750i all have the same camera). Your photos are great. You can check some more photos I took with my K750i here:

yeah i know, look at my k750 box:

Posted by SaLiH
@tranced - Mine is the same. . When I show people my photos I took with K750i they can't belive.

Posted by tranced
yeah, the same happens to me. they ask me what i used to take X pic and i tell em with my mobile. and they got shocked.

Posted by SaLiH
@tranced - I figured out one trick, when you're developing your photos, do it in 9x13 size, they will come out perfect, and one more trick is when you're taking photos indoore at night with leds and night mode on, photos will be much better if your picture size is set to 640x480, try it you'll see the difference. I can't wait for my MXE-60 to arrive so I can test it, aldough it's bad that we can't use it when we want, becuase phone decides when there is no enough light.

awww! you guys are tempting me to get k750i before the time i'm expecting! i'll do anything (legal) to get a hold of that phone! look at those pix!!! it's my ultimate phone!!!!

Posted by vrl29
lucky for you people who have those 2MP cam phones... i'm still quite contented with my own 1.3MP cam phone, although i must admit reading stuffs like this (the K750 camera is great!) tempts me to replace my current phone... i think i'll stop reading these kind of posts, they are 'poisoning' my mind. hehe, just kidding...

EDIT: i saw the quoted text below in the first post:
Quote:

correct me if i'm wrong, but is the MXE-60 accessory of the K750 contains a xenon flash, as stated in the MXE-60 specifications link of the Philippines website? if it does have a xenon flash, i suppose you can use it to compare outdoor night shots. just cover the 'sensor' of the MXE-60 to make it believe that the light in the surrouding area is insufficient, thereby making it flash...

@vrl29 - If you decide to change your phone I advise you to go for K750i or W800i,W810i,D750i,W900i or P990i because they all have the same 2 MP camera. I must admit that photos taken by S700 are quite good, I was immpresed when i saw some photos taken by S700 considering it's 1.3 MP. But then again S700 is the best 1.3 MP mobile phone just as K750i is the best 2 MP mobile phone. I'm not quite sure if K790/K800 is the best 3.2 MP mobile phone, because I saw some comparison between K800i, N73, N93 & D900 and it was tight. Let's just hope SE brings out best 5 MP mobile phone.

@vrl29 - You're right, I know all that, but my flash hasn't arrived yet, I ordered it on e-Bay, I'm still expecting it. Anyway, thanks for your advice.

@jojo - I agree it certanly stands out! Thanks

I do own the A40 and I've always compared with my K750i. While the A40 will win clearly, I can't use it to call, text

Like some of you, I'm sticking with the K750i until something really great comes out from SE. I've been playing with my mate's K800i and while it's great I don't think it's a big upgrade apart from 3G.

Posted by SaLiH
@arnoldc - Maybe that's just me but to me colors on photos taken by K750i look more real, I don't know about you. As you said we can't use Canon to call,SMS... and it's quite bigger and havier than K750i

Posted by *Jojo*
@salih - I forgot to add - Nice Presentation dude ! But I just remember some folks here (who have in UNISON - agreed) that we just cannot TOTALLY compare camfones with those of DIGICAMS As digicam's main function is to capture images (camera) . . . taking videos is just secondary . . . if we are to compare the K800 with that of a 3.2 MP Sony Cybershot, there and THERE wil be EVEN a SMALL discrepancy when camshots will be compared.

Posted by adises
but the new k750i's which are on sale in mumbai , india have a new camera chip it seems...can't zoom on large pic mode..and zoom is now 2x

First of all, I'd like to say this is a great thread salih, those were very good photos you took. Somehow I'm not able to get as good quality pictures with my K750. Then again, I haven't really tried taking photos outdoors. My night shots usually come out a little discoloured. Personally, I feel that the photos you took with your K750 look better than those you took with the Canon. Like you said, the colours seem more natural for the photos taken with the K750. There seems to be a sunny effect for the photos you took with your Canon.

Jojo, I agree with the general sentiment that digicams and phonecams should not be compared too seriously, but I'm still pretty amazed at some of the photos taken with the K750. I'd have thought they were taken with a real digital camera if I didn't know better. Camera phones have not replaced dgital cameras, and maybe they never will, but I love the convenience of having a decent camera in my phone for those moments when I don't have a digital camera around. I'm sure most of us feel that way, so one thing for sure is that camera phones are here to stay.

nice thread .. you brought back the confident of my K750 2MP camera quality

Posted by lastikcizme
Thanks for the comparison SaLiH..!

K750's CMOS sensor seems to produce better images than the 4-year-old CCD by Canon. Suberb Camphone, even though it has lower video performance than its Nokia counterparts.

This phone is a legendary model already, one of the best ever produced. Let's wait and see what other model will outbest it..

Posted by rockygali
and for sure it will be a "drop-jaw" sensation....

i just cant seem to wait more.... zzzzzzzzzzzZZZzz

great thread. this thread just reinforced the respect i have for the k750i. i've always been a mobile phone freak (phones do not last 3 months with me!) but now i am finding it almost impossible to replace my k750i. everytime i decide to replace it with something else (m600i, p990i, etc.), i take one look at it and i say to myself "i cannot possibly let go of my k750i..."

IMHO, the k750i is one of, if not the greatest mobile phone ever produced -- balance of features and design. i simply love it. i mean who in their right mind wouldn't?

Posted by JJ!
Your comparing a modern phone to a seriously out of date camera?? Pretty pointless TBH. I did the same test between my w810i and my ixus 60.. but the results were laughable as the w810i just couldnt compete so i didnt post them.

Even the k800 is way off the mark at the moment. Its good enough for taking a nice selction of pics... but when it comes to night shots, macro shots, zoom shots, effects shots etc etc it still has a long way to go before it gets near replacing a decent digital camera - not one thats 4 years old!

Posted by Tervel
@JJ wow what a pointless post you make... Considering most people on here have already Agreed that the comparison is Great and that the results of the K750 are trully phenomenal considering all the handicaps (tiny censor, tiny lens). I would take my K790 head to head with my Toshiba 3.2mp camera - True the Toshiba did have various aperature but still, I can make it aperature priority and the results would be remarcably close. I think that once you know the limitations of the camera phone (be it k750 or k800) a good photographer can get great photos out of both.

Posted by *Jojo*
@deluded - Yeah mate . . . yeah . . .

@jj - Well what can I say mate .. . . I remember when an old professional-photographer friend once told me that . . . we should not TOTALLY base the outcome of those images with the kind of camera that we used: SLR/DSLR/Camfone. He told me too that he onced BEAT an entry wherein the photographer used a 12 MP DSLR, whilst he just took some shots (later became an entry) using his OLD SLR camera (uses film) . . . it will depend on the settings used . . . and the the MAGIC hand (snapshots) of the photographer . . . after all.

I'm about to buy a w810i and one of the reasons for that is the camera i got tp know from the k750. It is an amazing piece of thechnology.
Just like the k700, the k750/w800/w810 camera has that hard to define quality to it that just makes you take better pictures - though of course the k700's camera is more than two leagues away from the k750/w800/w810's, just check the k700 pictures thread to get the idea.
A good camera gives you the confidence that what you see on the viewer is going to work out fine. Also the colours of the k750/w800/w810 camera are very natural, something 'real' camera's often keep having troubles with...

Posted by SaLiH
@DeLa - I agree, yesterdazy I tried some Kodak 3,2 MP Digital Camera, and the colours are awful, comparing to K750i.

@salih - I manage to OWN some 4 and 5 MegaPixel KODAK Digicams in the past . . . and I can say that they deliver one of the LIVELY images amongst all the digicams around (though will be left behind if to compare with that of a Canon and a Nikon though . . .) Also, their HUEs is a bit on the YELLOWISH-side . . .

I think in order to appreaciate the images taken from a digicam . . . you must START at LEAST from a - 4 MegaPixel ones and not the - 2 or 3.2 MP ones.

Posted by shaliron
Strange to see that the Canon has worse purple fringing than the K750, which I wouldn't have thought due to the (assuming) 'worse' optics of the K750.

The Canon colours are a bit nicer IMO, but the K750 holds up very well.

Posted by sahak
i'm agree with shaliron, both camera are with the same megapixel (2MP)
but canon capcure a sharper and better photo. how this happen? can
someone explain to me about this?

i hope salih can give us his canon camera specification here. anyway,
thanks for the news salih.
