Polystichum munitum, a hardy evergreen fern native to the Pacific Northwest. Adult plants will produce lush green fronds reaching 1.5 to 6 feet in length depending on habitat.

This fern will do best in well drained, acidic soil with full to partial shade. The western sword fern prefers damp soil but may be grown in more arid climates as well. Hardy from USDA zones 5 & up.

You will receive a mature, fully-grown plant. These are very large ferns and will need to be trimmed back to the rhizome to allow for shipping (USPS Priority Mail). Larger order quantities will save on shipping. Shipped as bare-root rhizome. Expect new foliage to emerge in springtime.

The two ferns arrived very well packaged in moist paper towels for the root and the plants were totally wrapped in plastic baggie materials. We shall see if they grow for me.

Item arrived very quickly and seems to be healthy. It has just a couple brown stems, and the rest green. We planted it immediately, and I'm excited for it to get some new fronds.
