ALPINE ASTER
Aster alpinus (Alpine aster) is an ornamental plant native to the mountains of Europe (including the Alps), with a subspecies native to Canada and the United States. It is a perennial for having purple, pink or blue flowers belonging to the genus Aster.
It grows to be about 6–12 inches tall (15–30 cm). The bloom color may be pink, violet-lavender, dark purple-black, or white-near white and may bloom in late spring or early summer or, occasionally, midsummer. In the UK this plant has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
It does better in generally cooler climates. Usually it is adapted to clay, silt, loam, silty clay, sandy clay, clay loam, silt loam, sandy loam, silty clay loam and sandy clay loam soils, and prefers low fertility. The plant can tolerate a minimum temperature of -28 °C / -18. It can survive medium heat of fire. It is herbaceous and attractive to bees, butterflies, and birds.
Conservation: In Canadian provinces, towards eastern North America, the species is critically imperiled. However, in both Canadian provinces and US states, at north-western and southern parts, the species is apparently secure.
Type: Hardy Perennial (will survive the winter and grow every year)
Height: 6–12 inches tall (15–30 cm)

SHIPPING PLANTS (Canada only)
At certain times of year we offer a limited amount of plants for sale. Please see our store to see if they are posted. Pre-orders are sometimes available, and are shipped in late April to early May.
The cost of shipping will vary depending on your location, and will be calculated in your cart before you check out. As plants are much bulkier than seeds, we cannot offer flat rate shipping for them.
If you order plants and seeds in one order, the seeds may be shipped separately, depending on the time of year.
International shipping: All countries outside of Canada require a seed inspection and a phytosanitary certificate, which is included in the cost of shipping. For USA orders we use this paperwork to get your order over the border (you will not see the certificate as it is taken at the border). Outside of North America, you will see the certificate arrive with your order. Though these certificates are costly, our customers tell us that they appreciate the option to order from us.
Please be sure that your shipping address is accurate and complete, so that you will receive your seeds without delay, and most of all we really want to make sure you receive your seeds!
Fast shipping: There are 2 shipping options at checkout. Use the dropdown selector to choose regular shipping, or expedited shipping. For both options, the shipping times will be displayed.
ABOUT SEEDS
These seeds are fresh! As with most seeds, if you are not planting your seeds right away, they are best stored in a cool place, perhaps a refrigerator, until you are ready to plant them.
ABOUT SEEDS AND PLANTS
Do not eat our seeds or plants. Due to the fact that about 80% of all plant species are not edible (contain toxins/poisons of some kind) these are likely to be poisonous. Ornamental use only.
