This is a simple looking chest.
But don't let the looks of it fool you.
It is made from sapient bottle caps.
It has a mind all it's own, a voracious appetite, and a foul temper when provoked.
Inspired by the disc world luggage, this chest is made from recycled bottle caps, electric fence wire, and a bit of fancy in the creation.
It was started before Terry Pratchett passed from this world to the next, but in creating it, just another small piece of him lives on to affect the world we still live in.
It has a partially open maw. ... Errr, sorry, I meant lid, which also has chains to hold it upright when open. The selection of caps used were to help convey the color of gold which was a point noted in the stories where the true luggage was referred to. The blue caps were to convey the bands used to hold the trunk together. The odd colored caps on the bottom of the chest were representing the feet. I never got an accurate number of how many there were supposed to be, so I improvised some, and took a bit of creative license in adding as many, or in this case, as few as I did.
The handles are hand twisted 12 gauge wire with aluminum coils for easy and comfort when carrying. Sorry, I just couldn't find the right type of caps to make it self mobile. When moving the chest, it is highly suggested you make sure the handles are snug to the sides of the chest, or else it has a tendency to want to rock back and forth. an unstable load of books inside could potentially spill out if it were not held properly.
The luggage measures 18 inches side to side including handles folded down, 9 inches tall including the lid, and 11.25 front to back. The interior dimensions are 1/4 inch less for the caps thickness, so all told one half inch less for the side to side, and front to back. The top is domed though so it has a curved interior. It still measures 2 inches or so at the peak and closer to 1 inch at the sides. The well for the chest is 5.5 inches deep.
Pictured in one of the photos is the series of books upon which this was based, so if you don't know but would like to, the book with the wizzard on it is the one you want to read. And sorry, but the books in the photo are props only.
In shipping the luggage, I will include a note to make sure it knows you are the new owner, and not to return to me. But for the shipping I will have to use UPS because of the size. I can see if you would like expedited shipping about having it travel faster than ground shipping, but I just don't know how it feels about air travel.
Included with shipping will be insurance to cover if there is a loss of the luggage or if there is undo damage in shipping.
If you are not in my normal shipping range and are truly interested in giving this surly bit of oddness a new home, please contact me via this site before considering purchasing it. I will get you an accurate quote for shipping and time of arrival barring unforseens, such as weather or global disasters. All other potential shipping will occur within the United States.
