The loaches belonging to the splendor fin suckers (Sewellia lineolata) live in Asia in fast-flowing streams and need also in the aquarium oxygen-rich, rather soft and very clean water. The shape of the small remaining splendor fin suckers reminds of flatfishes and they are perfectly adapted to strong currents. With their pectoral fins and pelvic fins transformed into suction fins, they can perfectly cling to stones or the aquarium glass.
The coloration of the magnificent fin sucker is a combination of light yellowish and dark brown lines and stripes and looks very attractive.
Sewellia lineolata is a very social fish and feels most comfortable in a group.
The splendor fin sucker likes cool water with a temperature of 18-24 °C and a total hardness up to 20 °dGH. The pH value should be 6 to 7.5. Make sure that the oxygen content is high. On fine gravel or sand the diurnal loach feels very comfortable, on large plant leaves the fin sucker likes to rest for a while.
The peaceful fin sucker can bekept very welltogether with shrimps , it does not chase the shrimp offspring. Optimally it fits for example to current-loving kinds like fan shrimps. You should not put fin suckers with crayfish, as they occupy the same region in the aquarium and could become victims of the pinchers.
With their underslung mouths, splendid fin suckers rasp growth from hard surfaces in the aquarium. Frozen foods and catfish food tablets are suitable for supplementing the diet.
Sex differentiation in the splendid fin sucker is difficult, and not much is known about breeding in the aquarium. Sewellia lineolata likes to lay eggs in coarse gravel. For breeding, a stream aquarium with large, smooth pebbles at the bottom, cool, current-rich water is best. The old fish do not chase the young. In the mulm between the stones the young fish find plenty of microorganisms. By vigorous water changes with cool water and good, varied food you can promote the spawning readiness of the fin sucker.
Our food recommendation: The NatureHolic Cichfeed has a grain size of 1,5 mm and is therefore also suitable for larger fish. The NH Cichfeed is a soft granulate for predominantly carnivorous fish. It has the same consistency as small crustaceans and insect larvae that fish naturally eat, and the soft granules protect the fish's mouth from micro-injuries that can result from hard feed granules.
Our plant recommendation: Use for planting NatureHolic InVitros. These are free of snails, planarians and other unwanted co-inhabitants. Also free of algae spores, bacteria and fungi.
Expert Tip: We recommend for fish keeping the NatureHolic 3 Phase Liquid. The care set offers the best all-round protection for your animals. It ensures optimal conditions for successful breeding and keeping.
