Cutleaf coneflower is a North American species of black-eyed Susan. Its natural habitat ranges from SE Canada to central USA where in many locations it is considered invasive. However, its varieties and garden selections are much less aggressive and provide a showy display of golden yellow flowers from midsummer till autumn.

Goldquelle is a fully double flowering variety of cutleaf coneflower. Its bright yellow flowers are 8-10 cm across and look almost like dahlias. Leaves are light to medium green, deeply lobed as if divided. Stems reach about one meter tall which makes Goldquelle a perfect companion plant for the back of a perennial border, or serves as a limelight planted in mass in front of dark green conifers or taller shrubs or trees.

Cutleaf coneflower is not picky about soil pH and prefers moist or even boggy soil and under these conditions loves full sun. In normal garden soil which might lack moisture it performs better in partial or filtered sun. It usually requires no fertilizing if grown in deep soil. Remove all stems just above ground level in early spring. Fully hardy to min. -34°C (USDA zone 4).
