Dwarf birch, also called bog birch because of its natural habitat, is a native shrub of Northern Hemisphere - North America, Greenland, and north Eurasia. It forms low, open to spreading shrubs with small leaves and thin and fragile twigs.

Golden Treasure® is a Czech variety of dwarf birch bred by Michal Adrusiv from Litomyšl and registered in 2014. It forms small, slightly spreading, almost flat-topped shrubs which are commonly pruned and trimmed to formal shapes in order to achieve a maintained look. It makes about 2 cm wide, kidney-shaped leaves serrated at margins. They emerge deep orange and mature to soft golden yellow and yellow green. Trimming is best done in earl spring or in midsummer. Thanks to its compact size and slow growth it is often trained into a small tree by grafting onto short stems .

Dwarf birch is not fussy about soil type - it is widely adaptable provided evenly moist or wet ground. Thanks to its small size it is often used in larger rockeries but our plant died there from drought. It is hardy to about -45°C (USDA zone 2) and is suitable for growing in larger outdoor pots with occasional water check .
