Nuno Gomes, Ambassador of Liga Portugal, talks about the outbreak of COVID-19 and reveals that he is living through this "with some concern", but at the same time, he remains "calm and confident" that better days will come. In his spare time, the former player of Boavista FC, SL Benfica, Fiorentina, SC Braga and Blackburn Rovers says he has been doing numerous things at home with his wife and children. "I help my son with his school homework, I help with the household chores", he added.

How are you dealing with the current State of Emergency in Portugal?

I am not going to deny that I see all this with some concern. But at the same time, I remain calm and confident that we will overcome this situation.

As a citizen, what kind of measures have you been taking?

I have been strictly following the recommendations from the health and safety authorities. I have been in quarantine and complying with all guidelines. I am at home, and no one leaves or enters, except for what is strictly necessary.

What else have you been up to during this quarantine?

I have been doing a lot of things. I help my son with school homework, I attend some video conferencing meetings, I watch Netflix, I listen to music, I do some exercise, I play football with my son, I speak with my family and friends on the phone, and I help with household chores.

What kind of advice would you like to give to society?

I ask everyone to comply with all confinement measures, to stay at home and to support those who are fighting this virus. I know that not all the people can stay at home, because the country cannot stop completely, and I take this opportunity to thank them.

What do you think Portugal could do? Do you agree with the measures imposed?

I agree with all guidelines in general, and I sincerely hope that people will be responsible, so we can avoid any stricter measures.

What message would you like to send to football fans and to the Portuguese in general?

Stay home for all the time needed. Comply with the guidelines from the Directorate-General of Health. Support the people who are fighting against this virus. Keep yourself and your family safe.
