I have two very grateful in-laws after a few weeks ago whilst visiting them I spotted what I believed to be a single stand of Japanese knotweed from their balcony. My suspicion has since been confirmed by external contractors who are addressing it urgently! 👀 I have been told that JK is often found near power sub stations like in this case, which could be due to imported soil when they are built. Always be on the lookout! 🧐
Hiya love. Mega good share - I’m having an INNS weekend too with a parakeet scaring the life out of me 🤣 in the apple tree. Honestly thought my daughters or husband were planking me! At first.
I unwittingly once bought a property with JK in my garden. Viewed in October. Had been cut and something placed on top. Didn’t bother with anything (legal-could have kicked off) but controlling it and cut the spread. Is easy on a small scale. If large enough, cut (put cuttings in a bag and spray with tree root killer) the stems. With the remaining part of stem (keep 6” above ground), drive screw driver into the stem and then use a slip-tip syringe to slowly drip tree root killer into the driven hole. If it is not that large, ‘paint’ the leaves. Do this in May and again in august each year. Job done. It might take 7yrs or more but it wil be targeted and do the job. Wear gloves, mask and eye goggles to protect yourself. And save yourself a fortune in contractor fees. Taught by the lovely gardeners at Beechgrove Garden and specialists I’ve worked with over the years.
And if you think it came from next door (the sub-station) you could always ask them to take this on in the long term- your in laws will likely take better care of the hedge ❤️

This is so tragic and heartbreaking! 💔
I often hear “but I only do residential work” when I talk to businesses about WHS.
Electricity and working at heights are both high-risk whether they are on a residential or commercial construction site. No matter what type of site, these risks requires a high level of controls. Every time!
No-one should ever die at work. We need to make sure that all workers go home in the same or even better mental and physical condition than when they came to work.
To do that, we all need to work together to consult with our teams raise the awareness and engagement around workplace health and safety.
Our families, our team members, and we deserve nothing less!

Want to fast-track your way onto the naughty list this year?⏩
Here's a super quick step-by-step guide:
Step 1: Buy a commercial property with an elevator
Step 2: Sign a service agreement that doesn't guarantee any service or safety testing
Step 3: Collect your coal!😎
Santa doesn't always Cannonball McTwist down chimneys, sometimes he takes the elevator..
..And no one gets put on the naughty list quicker than people who are responsible for passenger safety and don't take it seriously (let alone meet the minimum requirements👀)
That's today's Ted Talk - now go get on that naughty list!
The 4th is coming up soon and even though fireworks are fun remember to be safe when using them. Here are some safety tips to protect you, your family, and your home from the dangers of fireworks.
1. Only use fireworks outdoors and have a water bucket or hose available nearby incase of an accident
2. Keep a safe distance- Set a safety perimeter. For fountains and other ground-based fireworks stay at least 30 feet away. And for aerial fireworks that perimeter extends to 150 feet. This rule applies to anything that can potentially catch on fire too such as your home or any other objects or structures.
3. Soak your fireworks in water for at least 2 hours before discarding them.
4. Ditch your faulty fireworks. Duds should never be relit and should sit 5-10 minutes before putting them in a water bucket.
5. Only light one firework at a time. Lighting multiple increases the likelihood of an accident because the fuse may burn faster.
Happy Independence Day! Have fun and always stay safe.
