We hope you care able to join us tonight at 7:30 PM CST, for the last Beyond Boundaries: DEI Talks of the year. For this month’s topic we are looking back at 2023 and looking forward to 2024. What has happened in the last year that we can celebrate? What things do we need to work on addressing in the new year? Every month, we dive headfirst into the hot topics and burning questions surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion. It's where ideas collide, perspectives expand, and innovation ignites. These monthly virtual gatherings break the mold and redefining the way we connect in the DEI universe. “Beyond Boundaries: DEI Talks” convenes virtually on the last Thursday of each month at 7:30 p.m. CST and no registration is required. These meetings aim to foster informal and relaxed discussions surrounding DEI work. Whether you’re an experienced DEI professional or someone new looking to expand your knowledge, everyone is welcome. https://lnkd.in/g77TQKfe

I’m proud of our wins this season so far, but especially proud of the purposeful and thoughtful casting of talent and partners for our culturally driven work…which netted the bulk of said wins. It’s not easy, it takes a savvy, intersectional approach and sense of self awareness. It’s more than “oh just get a XXX person” or outsourcing. Rather, its working with all departments and partners to make sure people are bringing their culture, different POVs and needed skills into the space with cultural and intimate purpose vs just visible demographics. And, it’s protecting that space and their time. Again, it’s not easy. But, the proof is in the numbers—because when done right it’s also successful. The incredibly powerful collective of AAPI and allied BIPOC R/GA’ers, production and client partners that fueled creation of The Name, whose inception was rooted in vulnerable and intimate conversations. And on the flipside, leads who said “l’m here but this is yours” and purposely played the background. Approaching The Gentle Giant with a balance to craft the story authentically AND reach an apathetic audience emotionally was admittedly tricky as the team lead. Crafting the story with Bridgett Floyd, plus Andre Muir and Anslem Samuel who wove their experiences of being Black men in America into the representation of George. Then calling in a talented team of R/GA’ers from all backgrounds who balanced a commitment to racial justice and awareness of apathy to impact target viewers with every step. The global diaspora of Chinese (and at large, Asian/AAPI) R/GA’ers and typographers who came together for MOCA, the Museum of Chinese in Australia. Our continued partnership with Nooky x members of Australia’s Blak Indigenous community to create We Are Warriors. Ben and the crew are doing the work down under to call in, step in and step back. With all of these projects, it’s also cool to see how we are continuing these partnerships inside and outside of R/GA’s walls, beyond project timelines to propel these conversations. And so on and so on. Be clear, you’re not going to get it right all the time. We haven’t! Still try. And try again. You or your go-to teams may have to “sit this one out” or have conversations that are very delicate. But in all, it’s worth it beyond the awards, because your a better leader, creator and contributor on the other side of it.
