The screw-less focuser for your telescope - it simply slides in

Many telescopes have a focuser which does not allow very precise focusing. Especially difficult jobs such as focusing on a planet can be a real challenge. This helical focuser elegantly overcomes the problem. It is suitable for both refractors and Newtonian telescopes, but is also particularly useful with Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes. You need to do nothing more than to connect it to your existing focuser.

 

Suitable for all 2" focusers

The helical focuser has a 2" barrel. This allows it be inserted into the focuser just like an eyepiece. Its separate focusing mechanism now takes over the job of precision focusing.

 

Sharper focused planets via the helical mechanism

Once the helical focuser is attached, simply turn the oversized focusing knob - which you can control easily even with gloves on in winter. The rotating mechanism allows very smooth and continuous focusing, and without any play. Your new focuser does exactly what you tell it to.

 

Setting scale - for finding the optimal focus position again

A graduated scale always shows you the focus position you have just set. Once you've found the perfect point of focus, then you just need to remember this setting on the scale - you will then always be able to find it in future. The scale itself is similar to the millimetre markings on a ruler, but each marking here moves the focuser by only around 0.1 mm. What about that for precision?

What makes a helical focuser a viable alternative?

Unlike a Crayford focuser, the helical focuser design has a large focusing wheel. This means it is also very easy to operate in cold weather when wearing thick gloves. You don't have to fumble for it in the dark as it is easily found almost immediately. The design means a helical focuser is lighter compared to other focusers, and this can be crucial when you are trying to balance the telescope. This helical focuser lets you focus precisely. It also requires less maintenance than a Crayford focuser, since there are no ball bearings and no need to adjust it.

 

Your accessories will remain right where you want them

Many simple helical focusers have the disadvantage that they rotate during focusing, which means that your accessories also rotate. The Steeltrail helical focuser is designed completely differently: The inner 2" barrel moves in and out with millimetre precision and your camera or eyepiece will always remain exactly in position.

 

Everything stays secure: enormous carrying capacity

The helical focuser can carry a heavy eyepiece such as a huge 31mm Nagler, or a hefty camera with absolutely no problem. It can take virtually any accessory that you wish. This enormous load-bearing capacity is inherent in the design, meaning the focuser tube cannot slip.

Simple adaptation to a Newtonian telescope

Attach a suitable adapter to the focuser via an 80mm dovetail ring. Many amateur astronomers have a Skywatcher telescope and want to upgrade it. Up to now they had a problem however: there was no suitable adapter available for Skywatcher dimensions.
