9:30 a.m. UPDATE: Winds have surpassed 50 miles per hour on the Hathaway Bridge and it is no longer safe to cross.

Citizens are urged to stay off the roads and seek shelter in place.

PANAMA CITY — It's the most talked about question every storm — when will the bridges be closed?

The plan in Bay County is a little different than during past storms.

For the Hathaway bridge, instead of a set wind speed, law enforcement will determine where or not it's safe to cross the bridge as the storm goes on. Officials emphasized during the storm that people shouldn't be driving on the roads unless it's an absolute emergency.

As for the Dupont Bridge, Tyndall Air Force Base has said the Florida Highway Patrol plans to close the DuPont Bridge when winds reach 40 miles per hour.
