Adrian Farrington can still hear his 5-year-old son crying out to him days after Hurricane Dorian winds dragged the boy into a storm surge, never to be seen again, according to a report by the Nassau Guardian.
Farrington recalls trying to stay afloat with his son in the high, flood waters as Dorian passed over Murphy Town last weekend. Farrington was bleeding from a leg wound. He could feel it going numb, and fear grew in him as he thought he could see shark fins swimming near houses, the Nassau Guardian reported.
Farrington placed his son on a rooftop where he thought he was seeking safety from the storm, but a powerful gust pulled his son off of the roof and back into the flood waters, the Nassau Guardian reported.
Farrington immediately dove into the water, unable to see anything in the murky, dark waters and relied on touch; hoping to feel clothing or flesh, Nassau Guardian reported.
After succumbing to exhaustion from battling the surge, Farrington gave up the search. He then tried to make his way to a clinic for treatment to his bleeding leg.
On his way there Farrington saw about 15 people die, drowning in the storm surge, Nassau Guardian reported.
Farrington was unable to make the journey to the clinic by himself and was helped by locals who carried him to a hospital, the report showed.
He was flown to Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau for treatment Monday.
