PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The state is poised to begin a four-month project to repair exterior windows and the interior of the dome at the Rhode Island State House.

Scaffolding is expected to go inside the building’s rotunda in the coming week, according to an announcement issued Friday by the state Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance at the Department of Administration.

“The Rhode Island State House is one of our most beautiful assets, and its dome is due for some maintenance,” the division’s director, Carole Cornelison, said in a news release. “It’s been about 20 years since we looked to make repairs to the dome. A contractor will be performing some plaster work and paint restoration over the next few months.”

The $256,000 project is not expected to disrupt business at the State House.
