Description

A rarely seen species in cultivation but one which presents no problems to the gardener.

The leaves are dark green and heart-shaped whilst each of the stems that bears them carries 5-9 pale yellow birthwort flowers. These are tubular with an inflated end, connected by a short bent tube to a flared mouth, like an ear-horn or Dutchman’s pipe (its common name). This latter name is particularly apt, as this stock originated in Holland.

Native to light woodland it adores similar leafy soils in cultivation, where it will freely make its erect 40 cm stems once it is established.
