Description
For many years this was known as “the brick-red frit” this was the a 1960’s introduction from the mountains around Lake Van in eastern Turkey. Eventually it was named.
It makes quite dwarf stems with glossy bright green foliage and soft orange-red flowers faintly lined with yellow. These can be single or borne in clusters of up to three, on larger plants.
This species likes deep planting (10 cm) in humus-rich soils and does not need a severe summer rest as it inhabits (and is used to) slightly damper, cooler, montane environments. Very hardy.
