Description

In the days before the Japanese Hepatica cultivars were more freely available, this lovely fully doubled pink-red form of nobilis was one of the few double Hepatica that were ever seen in cultivation in the UK.

Fully hardy and a veteran of many years here, this slowly but reliably makes a tight clump totally covered with fully-doubled bright pink-red flowers early in the spring, followed by lightly patterned fresh leaves. The old leaves, by the way, last right through the winter and into spring, however they can safely be removed just before flowering (though not before we find).

Leafy, well-drained but moisture retentive loam soil in half shade is perfection. It does well here planted near our Cypripedium and sharing the same conditions.
