Delphinium nudicaule ‘Fox’
RED FOX DWARF DELPHINIUM

Delphinium nudicaule ‘Fox’ is a sizzler.
With airy sprays of vivid red blooms, buzzing about like swarms of hot bees.

Vivid red blooms like a swarm of hot bees

This dwarf Delphinium blooms its head off all through summer, despite its compact size.
So it is perfect for showy display in small gardens, pots, or for an abundant supply of cut flowers.

Ideal for small gardens & pots, or a vivid front edge

Plant Delphinium nudicaule ‘Fox’ in a Sunny spot to a little Part Shade.
And it is gorgeous planted along the front edge of a bed, or under roses and taller flowers.
Because of it’s dainty, lacy foliage; prolific and continuously repeating blooms; and knock-out colour – it is worthy of any prominent place.
And that includes feature containers, as this dwarf Delphinium will take to pot life very happily.

Feed the honey-eater birds but not the rabbits

The dainty flowers are adored by honey-eating birds, with long trumpets perfect dipping a beak and sipping nectar.
But fortunately rabbits and deer do not enjoy the taste of Delphinium, and sensibly tend to leave them alone.
Though it is worth protecting your Delphiniums from slugs and snails, particularly in the late winter and early spring when the new foliage is emerging and close to the ground and snail level.

Revels in sunbaking

‘Fox’ is a frost hardy treasure. And can happily tolerate frosts down to -10C, depending on conditions.
Because it is a native of California, where summer temperatures can sizzle, this little beauty revels in sunbaking.
So it is easy to grow and low maintenance.

Suitable for coastal gardeners

Delphinium nudicaule ‘Fox’ enjoys well drained soils, and is accustomed to gravel and rocky soils in it’s native habitat. As well as cliffs and seaside locations – so it is ideal for coastal gardeners.

Neat clump of pretty, lacy foliage, with the buzzing flock of flowers hovering above on wiry stems.
So they bob about fetchingly in any breeze.
Ideal for front edges, underplanting or pots.
Hardy perennial 25cm. High in flower x 30cm. Wide clump of lacy, low foliage.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY

Sow Delphinium seeds in autumn, winter or spring.

Indoors for quick plants: First place seeds between two sheets of wet paper towel in a sealed plastic bag, and place in fridge for 36 hours.

Then remove, and sow the seeds in punnets on surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Now cover with 5mm of sieved mix or sandy grit.

And thoroughly moisten the whole punnet by standing in a shallow water bath, and allowing the moisture to percolate up to the surface of the mix from below.

Now place the moist, sown punnet in a warm, well-lit position (not in direct sunlight).

Temperatures of 18-21°C approx. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.

And continue to keep moist by misting from a spray water bottle as required.

Most seedlings emerge in approx. 10-20 days.

But do not discard punnet as some seeds may come later. This is a natural process for this plant because it staggers the germination of it’s seeds to give them a better chance of sprouting into favourable weather conditions.

Seed Count:  10 seeds per pack approx.
(This delightful little Delphinium is not commonly available in Australia, and seed is limited.
But we do aim to exceed the seed count).
