Lysimachia clethroides ‘Lady Jane’
GOOSENECK LOOSESTRIFE

Lysimachia clethroides ‘Lady Jane’ is both graceful and tough in the garden.
Because she blooms with an unusual curve in every pristine white flower stem.
Hence the common name of “Gooseneck”.
Though I think the name “Swan neck” would better describe the lovely shape.
Not permitted for entry to WA

Long blooming & excellent floristry flowers

Lysimachia clethroides ‘Lady Jane’ is satisfyingly long blooming, as she continues to send up her graceful arched spires from mid-spring and right through summer and autumn.
So whole stems can be cut frequently for use in vases and floral arrangements.
Where the pristine white, and flowing curved flower stems give elegant lines and interest.
As well as lasting extremely well.
‘Lady Jane’ seems purpose built for wedding arrangements and bouquets.

Old fashioned & useful cottage herb

Lysimachia clethroides ‘Lady Jane’ is also an old favourite amongst herbalists, along with florists and low maintenance gardeners.
And it has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine to treat fluid retention, cleanse the blood, and reduce inflammation.

Easy going and easily pleased plant

Plant ‘Lady Jane’ in a Full Sun to Partly Shaded position. She really is a very easy going and accommodating plant.
‘Lady Jane’ is resoundingly frost hardy and able to withstand even hard frosts down to at least -20C.

Tolerates a wide range of soils including boggy clay

And she will also tackle almost any soil type, from sandy through to heavy clay, acid or alkaline.
Although her preference is for heavier, moisture retentive soil.
And she will positively frolic in damp spots, along the edge of a dam, or in a poorly drained low spot, and spread aggressively in boggy conditions.
Though she will also clump up enthusiastically in average garden soil, while in sandy soil the growth and rate of spread will be slower.

Resistant to rabbits & deer

The flavour of Lysimachia is not to the taste of rabbits and deer and they tend to leave it alone.

Tough stalwart perennial

Lysimachia clethroides ‘Lady Jane’ really is a tough, hardy, stalwart perennial.
So she can put up with a lot of neglect and still come up shining.

45cm. High graceful, arching white spires x 90cm. dense foliage clump.

SEED SOWING ADVICE: QUICK & EASY
Suitable for beginners & gardening with kids

Sow indoors in spring or autumn / or scatter in the garden.

Sow indoors for quick plants & early flowers: First sow the seeds in a punnet on the surface of good quality seed raising mix.
Then gently pat the seeds to the surface of the mix to ensure good contact, but do not cover.
Because these seeds need light for germination.

Now place in a warm, well-lit position (not in direct sun).
And continue to keep moist.
Covering with a clear lid helps to maintain moisture.
And you can use a heat mat if you have one, but it is not essential as these seeds are willing germinators.

Temperatures around 20°C. are ideal for rapid and optimum germination.

Then seeds germinate in 10-20 days.

Scatter directly in the garden: Seeds can be scattered directly in the garden during spring.

Seed Count: 25 seeds per pack approx.
(We always aim to exceed the stated seed count, and give a generous serve).
