AGAPANTHUS umbellatus “Albus”

(Agapanthus- African lily)

Description

It's a South African rhizomatous plant. It is very suitable to our environment, producing a magnificent white or blue flowering on a long stem which can be used as a cut flower. A sunny position makes the plant more flourishing. Before and during flowering, it needs regular irrigations, avoiding water stagnation. There are also varieties with a slower growth, such as Agapanthus “Mini-blue” and “Peter Pan”, ideal in pots, small gardens and flower beds. Even if it is a very cold resistant plant due to its underground storage organs, in winter a covering at the base of the plant is recommended in the colder areas.

Suggestions

It can be grown in pot. It is ideal as cut flower. Remove withered flowers and adopt sunny positions in order to increase the blooming. Compact soils and water stagnations should be avoided. In very windy areas, use some supports for floral stems.
