Periwinkles are evergreen, ground-cover plants with creeping stems up to 2 m.

Flowers

Flowers whitish-blue, single, on long stalks growing out of the leaf axil. Salver-shaped.

Leaves

Elliptic oval leaf, Lanceolate leaf is lance-shaped: long and widest in the middle. Oval to long, pointed, opposite on the stem.

Fruits Seeds

Capsule: forked, 4-5 cm.

Medical

Leaves: the active ingredient ‘vincamine’, is extracted from the leaves. It dilates the veins in the brain, increasing bloodflow and improving memory.
